In addition to the material accessible during the program on,  some or all of these books below will be used.

Some of these should be read completely before Session 1.  Others you can start any time and may have certain chapter goals prior to several sessions — check each session’s prework and pre-reading requirements well in advance!

Love Does — Bob Goff

This book will either appeal to you or challenge you greatly.  While Bob Goff is clearly a successful professional attorney, Love Does is about diving into life and relationships more impulsively and without reservation.  It’s a great counterbalance for Bob Buford’s Half Time which is more process driven.

“This may look like a book. It’s not. It is an invitation to enter into the greatest adventure you have ever known—your life as it was meant to be lived. Hang on!” –Michael Hyatt,  Author, Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World,

“Every once in a while someone like Bob Goff shows up to remind us that some things matter a lot more than others.  Love Does has a kind of ‘north star’ effect that will push you to refocus your life and energy on what is most significant. It doesn’t just invite you to respond with your God-given potential, it invites you to become a part of what God can do beyond your potential.” –Reggie Joiner, Founder and CEO of Orange

Half Time — Bob Buford

This is one of the best books to read prior to the unleash sessions. Bob was an executive and approached his “second half” very deliberately and with a clear process of discovery.

According to Bob Burford, broaching midlife doesn’t have to be a crisis. In fact, in Half Time, Burford insists that it is actually an opportunity to begin the better half of life. The first half is busy with “getting and gaining, earning and learning,” doing what you can to survive, while clawing your way up the ladder of success. The second half of life should be about regaining control, calling your own shots, and enjoying “God’s desire … for you to serve him just by being who you are, by using what he gave you to work with.” What lies between the two is “halftime.” Buford argues that whether you are a millionaire, a manager, or a teacher, you will one day have to transition from the struggle for success to the quest for significance. Halftime, then, is a quiet time of deliberate decision-making, restructuring, and passionate contemplation of your heart’s deepest desires. Buford’s writing is grounded in the real-life experience of success and failure, and most poignantly, the death of his son. While he has led a very successful life in the eyes of the world, Buford’s personal stories reveal that his faith in Christ is his central priority. Instead of a transition to be feared, Buford makes midlife an introspective journey of abundance that will unleash God’s best for you. –Jill Heatherly

Holy Ambition — Chip Ingram

What is your Holy Ambition? It means that we dare to become the people God wants us to become: people who will let Him do a powerful work in us and through us. God isn’t looking for the brightest and the best. He’s looking for people who so deeply long to see God’s agenda fulfilled in this fallen world that they attempt what seems impossible, ridiculous, and “outside the box,” for God’s glory. Are you one of them? In this series on Nehemiah 1 – 6, you’ll learn how God uses ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things and the process by which He molds men and women for His purposes. You’ll learn the six conditions that God looks for in the lives of people he uses: a dislocated heart, broken spirit, radical faith, strategic plan, personal commitment, and a courageous soul,
